The Woman’s Manifesto
Rayna Malik Walters, JD

We lag behind our male counterparts in earning potential despite being equally qualified.  We bear the weight of child rearing and familial duties despite working the same work hours as our partners. Recent research shows that 94% of both men and women agree that a double standard exists for the sexuality of women, that is, women should be chaste or as close to virginal as possible. Advertisers perpetuate the ideal that a “good” woman’s job is to clean house, cook meals, take care of her man and run the children to practice and rehearsals.

We are ‘good’ because we are women.

Our value must be internalized, recognized and esteemed.
It is my time- I’ve got the Power!

        This is my pledge:

        1. More than the roles that I embody, I am powerful. The elevation of women and freedom from the constraints placed upon us by antiquated conventions is my mission.

        2. I am supreme - a superhero with amazing talents.

        3. I know my potential.  The world is mine for the taking.

        4. I love and appreciate myself. While I give to others, I know that constant understanding and appreciation of my worth is imperative to my survival. I replenish and renew my body, mind and soul first.

        5. I refuse to fake it. Complete satisfaction is a right not a privilege.

        6. I reject standards of beauty, age and perfection.  I am free of judgment.  I define myself.

        7. I have the power.  The innate strength, beauty and passion that I possess are a testament to my power.

        8. I esteem my body.  As a believer of my worth, I cannot accept substandard treatment.
        I deserve the best.

        9. I am part of a powerful sisterhood. I vow to support, encourage and love my fellow sisters.

        10.  My time is now. Without apology or guilt, I take my rightful place.
